King of The Castle ( Or Maybe Prisoner?? )

Castles are old and castles are cool.....Today's Highlight was a visit to the restored, 500 year old, Trakai Castle located in Trakai Lithuania.

The castle is beautifully situated on an island on Lake Galvė. We got off the bus to this wonderful view of the castle. The view was only enhanced by a wonderfully clear blue sky and a surprisingly clear lake. As we ventured toward the castle, the walls started looming over us. We entered into a courtyard like area and then entered the castle. Upon entrance we were surrounded by four tall, brick walls with a wooden walkway to help get us to all the rooms of the castle.

We were transported back in time! We toured the castle for about an hour. But what castle tour is complete without becoming a prisoner and put in the classic stocks!?! Before we left I had to try them myself...

Here are some more pictures of the castle....

This is the chapel of the castle. It is still used today for some small traditional music events due to its wonderful acoustics and some important diplomatic signing events.

Once we departed the castle, we embarked on the three hour journey to LCC International University. I was able to drop my things into my room ( including my baggage that had just come ) and go to a group dinner with the rest of the study abroad staff.

The picture above only shows half of the room. The other half is through a hallway that is behind the camera. This hallway also has a fridge, sinks, and a shower and toilet in two small, separate rooms.

That's all for today!
